Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine

Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine

When I was in high school, I loved to collect Tinker Bell merchandise (mugs, snowglobes, stickers, etc.), but Tinker Bell wasn’t nearly as popular as the Disney Princesses at the time, and it was hard to come by quality products.

Now ten years later, thanks in part to a series of direct-to-DVD movies that focus on Tinker Bell’s adventures in Pixie Hollow with her fairy friends (Tinker Bell, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games), Tinker Bell is more popular than ever.

The first direct-to-DVD release, Tinker Bell, came out in 2008, followed by three sequels released over the next three years, and a fourth sequel, Tinker Bell and the Mysterious Winter Woods, due in 2012. The Tinker Bell series is the first of the Disney films to feature Tinker Bell as a computer animated character who speaks, as Disney’s traditionally animated Peter Pan (1953) and Return to Neverland (2002) had the fairy communicate entirely with churlish expressions and pouty body language.

The Return of Winnie the Pooh

The Return of Winnie the Pooh

July 15th is sure to be a day of nostalgia for movie goers, thanks to two major releases from family-friendly franchises.

This Friday marks the end of an era when the eighth and final Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), makes its theatrical debut almost ten years after the magical trio of Harry, Ron, and Hermione (played by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson) first journeyed to Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s [Philosopher’s] Stone (2001).

While Harry Potter‘s epic showdown between good and evil is sure to wow the millions of fans who grew up with the beloved children’s series, movie goers looking to revisit their childhoods in a more mellow fashion can mosey on over to the theater next door for another visit to the charming Hundred Acre Wood, home of Winnie the Pooh, Eeyore, and Tigger too.

Princess Dress-Up Sticker Book

Princess Dress-Up Sticker Book

Princesses don’t get married every day… unless they’re Disney Princesses. When Kate & William Royal Wedding fever was in the air this spring, Disney Publishing took note and released the Disney Princess Dress-Up: My Sticker Book app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch ($3.99 each), so that little girls can dress up their favorite Disney princesses and play out their wedding fantasies year-round.

The app is the first sticker book from Disney DigitalBooks, which has published a number of traditional Read-Alongs and Puzzle Book apps starring Mickey, Nemo, Lightning McQueen, Tiana, Winnie the Pooh, and the stars of Toy Story. The specs: at 82 megabytes, the sticker book app demands a significant amount of free space and can be ponderously slow on the older iPhone 3G OS, although it plays more smoothly on Apple’s faster operating systems.

Cars 2: The Video Game will allow players to become one of twenty different characters and explore dozens of locations from the Cars 2 universe as they train to become a super spy agent of C.H.R.O.M.E. (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage). Radio Disney Android App

Radio Disney Android App

At 30,000 apps, the Android mobile app market is minute in comparison to rival Apple’s 350,000+ applications, but in February, a free Radio Disney app – Disney’s first non carrier-exclusive app – finally joined the Android ranks.

Like its Apple counterpart, the app offers 24-hour live channel streams and allows users to request songs, send shout-outs, see recently played songs, add songs to a Favorites list, and learn about local Radio Disney events. And most significantly, the app has multitasking capabilities, meaning that users can listen to Radio Disney while using their phones for other things like texting, browsing the internet, and sending emails.
