Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Blogging Disney has featured the world of Pixie Hollow on three previous occasions.

Tinker Bell

In August 2011, I blogged about the Disney Fairies Magazine and the Disney Fairies Fly mobile app: Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine.

In September 2011, I promoted the TV premiere and home video release of the Pixie Hollow Games movie with links to online games and contests. Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

And in July 2013, I gave a detailed review of one of my favorite Disney apps: Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique.

Are you surprised there’s so much happening in the tiny, magical world of Peter Pan’s temperamental fairy sidekick? Don’t be!

Introducing the Garden Fairy Chloe, screenshot from disney.go.com/fairies/

Fans of the Disney Fairies franchise have always known the world of Tinker Bell and her friends is more than just movies, magazines and mobile apps: it’s a vast multiplayer online universe where you can create your own fairy avatar, play games, design fashions and interact with thousands of other Tinker Bell fans.

Err, well…it used to be, anyway.

As it happens, Disney shut down the Pixie Hollow online world in September 2013, just two months after I raved about the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app (which I came THISCLOSE to spending real $$$ playing). But on September 19th, Pixie Hollow vanished, and along with it, the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app.

What about Disney Fairies Fly and the Disney Fairies Magazine? Are they still around? Nope. All gone. Poof. It’s as if they never existed.

Of course, Disney can delete Pixie Hollow from the internet and remove the games from the App Store, but my blog posts are still online. I didn’t even know Disney purged the Disney Fairies universe until I received several comments from readers who couldn’t find the Fashion Boutique in the App Store. The comments were from angry Fairies fans who loved the fashion boutique app but couldn’t download it on new devices and were unable to recover the game after accidentally deleting the original download.

Pixie Hollow Closed

As a Fashion Boutique fan, the frustrations of other gamers inspired me to investigate the vanishing app. The internet isn’t always the easiest place to find things that no longer exist, but after a fair amount of Googling, I found an FAQ explaining Disney’s purge of Pixie Hollow and its related apps.

Pixie Hollow FAQ

Unfortunately, the FAQ page is a JPG image, making it inaccessible to screen readers and devices without image support, and the text can’t be read and indexed by search engines. To help the distraught Fairies fans who come to Blogging Disney looking for answers, I’ve copied Disney’s official FAQ below.

  2. Dawn says:

Closing Pixie Hollow was a business decision and that is just reality. When I joined in July 2007 Disney was saying then that PH would close……………. they figured it would run for a period of time which they did not talk about but it was going to close as will the penguin game sooner or later. Everything has its time. I fee bad for the ones who found Pixie Hollow in 2010, 11, 12, and 2013 because they had such a short time in the Hollow. I had my six years and I treasure every memory I have.

  3. Strawberry vanillagarden says:

I cannot believe this! They close pixie hollow down to work on club penguin. CLUB. PENGUIN. SERIOUSLY. And don’t you dare say “its just business” dawn. Yes I am calling you out. Pixie hollow was the only thing I was allowed to play on the Internet. My parents eventually trusted me more after pixie hollow closed. They, and almost EVERYBODY ELSE, think all games are the same. THEY ARE NOT. Disney realizes that pixie hollow is better than most online games right!?!? Pixie hollow, by today’s standards, is amazing. Or, was amazing. UNTIL DISNEY WANTED TO BE IDIOTS!!! Seriously. I have started playing animal jam but it’s just not the same.

  4. Dawn says:

    Good luck getting Disneys permission

  5. Katt says:

If you still have packet logs for the game I have a team, this team and I will remake the game with Disney’s permission.

  6. Dawn says:

I care very much that its gone and I miss it every day but its gone. If by chance Disney out of the blue brings it back I will be the first to eat crow and buy you a new dress but until that happens life goes on. Remembering fond memories is one thing but saying nasty things about Disney or making threats to Disney none of that stuff helps. Pixie Hollow was a force of nature to many of us but it had to end one day and that day was in 2013 and Disney has moved on as will you and others one day.

  7. Charlette says:

Dawn, your such a downer, it doesn’t look like you even care about PH or that it closed!

  8. Dawn says:

From day one Disney “always” had a plan to close Pixie Hollow. They spent money creating it and supporting it for six years………. just how long do you feel Disney should have kept sinking more money into it just to keep it going for you ??? Since 2013 ex-fairies have been very liberal with Disney’s money and expecting them to keep dumping lots of money into PH..well they did and now its over and life goes on and Disney has moved on to other projects that they feel requires “their” money. Never forget that it is a business which has share holders to answer to.

  9. Charlette says:

That email didn’t make sense, they could have just closed it for a few months or something while they revised and redecorated it, but they didn’t have to shut it down for good! its so so soooooooooooooo special to most of us! πŸ™

  10. Dawn says:

I received this letter from Disney in 2014.

    Hello!

It is wonderful to hear from you today. I am also a huge Pixie Hollow fan, and worked on the product for a number of years. I did not realize that it has been a year already. It has gone very quickly.

It warms my heart to hear that you still have wonderful memories of this beautiful game and that you had hoped to share your experiences with your children one day. Disney is certainly about making memories and sharing them with family and friends for many years to come.

I know that it was very sad day for all, when the decision was made to close the Hollow for good. Please know that this decision was not made lightly. With the ever changing technology, there was simply no good way to maintain the current site so that it would remain playable by our guests. The site would only have deteriorated, and we did not want to leave you with a bad experience.

I hope you will continue to hold the memories in your heart by watching some of the wonderful Pixie Hollow videos that are still available to view. This may even be a way for you to share this experience with your family in future.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know. We are always here to help.

    Sincerely,

    Jen

I miss pixie hollow so much I probably started playing when I was 5 or 6, and im 12 now… it closed when I was 9 or 10
    :'(

  12. Charlette says:

I still remember the name of my fairy, she was charlotte pepper blossom and my user name was heatheremma, if you were my friend say pineapple in one of your comments, Pixie hollow was the first game I was allowed to play virtually, and… I know its kind of weird… but I actually thought some day in the future my kids were going to be able to play and have the same experience as I did playing, it was a HUGE part of my life… πŸ™

  13. samantha says:

That Pixi Hollow game was my world the I want to be a fairy :'(

  14. Charlette says:

Before Pixie Hollow closed, I think they should have asked the players first, especially me cuz I would have said.. OH PANCAKES NO! (I AM NOT ALLOWED TH]O SWEAR SO I MAKE UP MY OWN, SORRY CAPS I DONT FEEL LIKE RETYPING THIS SO IM LEAVING THE CAPS ON)

  15. Charlette says:

I found a game similar to pixie hollow, but it’s just not the same… πŸ™ my cousin and I play that instead its called Animal Jam, its OK, but I used to ONLY as in ONLY play pixie hollow, especially because my parents are so over protective, so it was nice to have the chat bar with SOOOO many things to say, I had that thing MEMORIZED!!! that’s how much I played, I would sit on the computer with my cousin for 4 hours STRAIGHT playing I am soooooooo mad at pixie hollow founders

  16. Gabi [fake name] says:

I was born in 2005 and I played it until it closed! I loved this game and I hope it will come back, I played this game for as long as I could every day and now it’s gone! Again, I hope the game comes back πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

  17. Dawn says:

You all miss the point closing Pixie Hollow was part of a business and was meant to close as Disney said back in 2007/2008. I understand you all miss it but seriously just how long was Disney to keep this game going to keep Fairies happy ?

  18. ErykaJade says:

I cannot believe that Disney closed down Pixie Hollow. WERE THEY OUT OF THEIR MINDS? People spent a GREAT DEAL of time on pixie hollow. They were also making GOOD MONEY off of that game. It doesn’t make sense to me. I feel like they should’ve really prioritized when the idea of shutting pixie hollow came about. If Pixie Hollow lasted, do you think people would actually care about their other games now, and to my opinion they’re all stupid! Now, I’m done with my ranting. Have a nice day.

  19. Charlette says:

I have played it ever since I remembered, and my cousin played with me!!! we would facetime and play at the same time, and every time she visited from up north we would play for hours and then go into the pool and pretend we were our faries…. πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Joan says:

I loved it. I was just about to buy the membership when they said it would be closing. I can’t find virtual worlds as good as this one was. I hope it comes back. Los of people played it. I played it since I was five.
    πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

  21. Charlette says:

    I agree with Dasher

  22. Dasher says:

I really miss this game and i used to play it when i was little. i loved it and it was a big part of my childhood. i am so sad and cant believe that it has been taken away. I hope someday it will come back bigger and better.

  23. Charlette says:

I STILL miss pixie hollow and my avatar, Charlette PepperBlossom! I wish they haden’t closed, I usually played for fun and whenever I was sad… πŸ™

  24. Saphire says:

Me and my sister were sad that pixie hollow closed down… My sister laterally screamed in her pillow and started crying, we checked every day to see if it was back… But it never did and now I am thinking it will never come back, she is still not over it. She and I would love if it came back… :'( πŸ™

  25. Kiki says:

Luna Seaspirit you are so right. They should make it so it’s available on all devices. Even make an app for it would make money. Look at the sims game, it’s been on for 4 years and still going strong. πŸ™ I really miss the game. I took a bunch of screenshots of my house and badges before they closed it. πŸ™

  26. Alice says:

I can’t say how much I miss pixie hollow. Flying around with my best friends made me feel free.. When I noticed it was going to shut down, to be honest I thought they were kidding. I was at a sleepover with my best friends, who played pixie hollow with me all the time. We were gonna log on and fly together.. but it said it was shut down. We all started crying and didn’t know what to do. I miss pixie hollow, and if it ever does come back, I will buy a membership and be the happiest girl on earth… one day.. please, we miss our friends and everything else. I’m gonna go cry now.

  27. Dawn says:

Disney ignores all petitions…………………… you are just wasting your time because its a business and they made a business decision to close and that is that.

  28. Jazzberry says:

All my childhood is gone basically favorite shows like lilo and stitch brandy and mr whisker Kim possible, etc. but now you remove my favourite game. I’m so disappointed. Both guys and girls love this game and now you took it away from us is like ripping half my heart out. You made a big mistake disney by closing pixie hollow for the childish game (club penguin). I’m going to miss my sparrow man. I can’t even remember his name. Was it jay berry something? Idk but really gonna miss him. The fight is over thought let’s make a petition to bring it back. Let’s do a meeting kinda like a comic con to bring pixie hollow back. If you really love it then don’t give up, FIGHT!

  29. Flora (Emma) says:

I remember that day… it came closer and closer until the end. I still cant believe its already been 3 years since it shut down. Im so so so SOOOO mad at Disney all because of other stupid games?!!!?!? THAT WAS MY FAVOURITE GAME OF ALL TIME!!!!! Ive been playing the game since 2009!! Maxed level, I still miss it so much. All we can do is spam the hell outta disney for the flitterific game to come back. Everyone is so mad that they cant revive their memories over the years… We need to make it happen again.

  30. Dawn says:

Light and Hope and wishing upon a star are one thing that sells to muggles (that is us if you were wondering) but business is another thing altogether. The Parks the games are all part of the Business Plan that is called Disney. They giveth and they taketh away all because of business.

  31. Nestila Crystal says:

Questioner: will any one even go and read this? Answer: I hope so.

  32. Nestila Crystal says:

that was my anger displayed poetically.

  33. Nestila Crystal says:

    is it coming through?

  34. Nestila Crystal says:

It is ridiculous an outrage that they would speak of light and hope, but as easily strip it away so harshly,
they could of least of left it their for others to continue playing, sigh, but times come and go and the river of time must continue.

  35. Lilliana Joycia says:

    I really miss this game!!

  36. Dawn says:

    https://www.facebook.com/windmuddle?fref=tl_fr_box

maybe be this will happen or maybe not but its the only thing going……. if Disney allows it ??

  37. Lisa says:

This is CRAZY, the game should come back somehow because this was a REALLY good game. I am so upset the game’s down!

  38. Anonymous says:

T_T I am SO sad that pixie hollow was shut down. It was my FAVOURITE online game, and the first one I ever played. I was 9 when it shut down, and I still remember, excited to play on my favourite game, only to see that it was shut down, crying because it was never coming back. I heard it shut down because of club penguin. I would prefer to see this site come back than have club penguin. PLEASE Disney, if you care about your fans and loyal customers, BRING PIXIE HOLLOW BACK. So many people would love that you did. PLEASE. That game was important to me, and many others, it was one of the only times me and my sisters would get along, (and my mom loved that). I have so many memories of me and my sisters playing that game together, playing minigames, dressing up our fairies, decorating our house. All I can say is Please… and hope that Disney brings it back, one day…

  39. Jazzberry says:

I am a guy and I can honestly say I missed this game. Club penguin was the first game I played but pixie hollow is more fun. I met a lot of friends and had so much memories of it. I missed teaching the birds how to fly or playing guitar to help the animals sleep. Those were the days:( I was only ten or younger when the game came out and now I’m seventeen. Still miss it:(

  40. Gardenia Moondance says:

    this is crazy

  44. BigPitFan01 AJ says:

this game had so many memories… it was the first online game I EVER played… I was so sad when it shut down… now to replace Pixie Hollow, I play Animal Jam instead… sometimes I wish to play Pixie Hollow again someday… maybe that wish will come true… I cried when I saw the logo… I was 9 or 10 when I last saw the logo… Im 14 now, so it’s been 5 or 6 years when I last saw the logo… Im surprised that I knew what the logo was for… Pixie Hollow will always be one of my fave online games I ever played… just maybe JUST maybe Pixie Hollow will be back… Im guessing no… :'(

  45. Forgotten Name says:

I’m super sad that they closed pixie hollow even though its been 2 years.I even called Disney to complain and ask about it and they said and i quote (and yes i still remember)” I’m sorry young lady Pixie Hollow is NEVER coming back” I was so emotionaly messed up because i just got a membership. i heard they closed it because of club penguin and i was like NO ONE likes club penguin.

its been so long I forgot my username.

  46. Dawn says:

Luna everything you say is 100% true but Disney has moved on from Pixie Hollow and there is absolutely no evidence they are going to revive it.

  47. Luna Seaspirit says:

I really wish they would bring pixie hollow back. They can make it accessible for computers, tablets, and mobile devices. They would make a lot of fairies fans truly happy to see their game back. It is a place to have fun and make friends.

  48. Dawn says:

Yes truly missed as it was the best of the best.

  49. RoseDazzleSky says:

it’s crazy how its been 2 years since it closed down and it’s now going onto 2016. Pixie Hollow will be truly missed.
