Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off
From a recent string of tween-friendly musical series, it’s clear that the Disney Channel loves music stars. First there was Hannah Montana, then Jonas L.A., and the cast of I’m In the Band (not to mention made-for-TV movies Lemonade Mouth, Camp Rock, and the High School Musical franchise). But the Disney Channel’s recent foray into the world of popular music, Shake It Up, is the first to focus on dancing rather than singing.

Shake It Up is a sitcom that follows the adventures of best friends CeCe Jones and Rocky Blue (played by stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya) who pursue their dreams of becoming professional dancers when they land dancing roles on a local series, Shake It Up Chicago.
And now the Disney Channel is offering an opportunity for other aspiring young dancers to follow in the footsteps of CeCe Jones and Rocky Blue by launching a kid/tween talent competition, Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off ‘Shake It Up’ Edition. The winner of the competition will appear on an episode of Shake It Up which has just begun production on its second season.
From Friday, July 1st through Wednesday, August 3rd, aspiring dancers aged 8-16 (with parental permission) can go to MakeYourMark.disney.go.com/ to create and submit a 45 second dance video featuring up to five performers showing off their choreographed or freestyle dance moves. Other kids will be able to “like” their favorite videos with the most popular being featured weekly online and on TV.
The five-city talent search for dancers for the series begins in LA (on July 7th) and then heads to Chicago (July 9th), San Francisco (July 16th), Atlanta (July 23rd), and Detroit (July 30th). In August, six finalists will be announced on the Disney Channel and those finalists will compete head-to-head in front of celebrity judges when Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off premieres in October. Viewers will be able to vote on the winner from the three final contestants.
The Make Your Mark site hasn’t officially launched yet, but in the meantime, dancers can practice their moves with online step-by-step instructional dance videos from the Shake It Up choreographer. There are already ten instructional videos online, with new videos posted on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
“Watch Me”, a new music video featuring Shake It Up stars Bella Thorne and Zendaya, will premiere on the Disney Channel on Friday, June 17th, with the digital single becoming available for purchase the following Tuesday. The Shake It Up: Break It Down CD and DVD combo pack which includes the first series soundtrack, the “Watch Me” music video, and a series of instructional dance videos, will be released on July 12th.

The online Shake It Up Dance Video Creator lets players create their own music videos by setting character dance sequences, backgrounds, and special effects to songs from the series. The controls aren’t very sophisticated and there’s only a handful of dance sequences and backgrounds to choose from, but it’s a fun diversion to try along with the Dance Burst (aka: “click the glowing squares”) game.
And even if dancing’s not your thing, it’s all but impossible to watch the Shake It Up cast having a blast, without wanting to groove along with them.

Hey I’m trying to upload my video right now.. this is the 3rd time I’ve tried to uplead it! I kept on having to get up 3 times in the middle of the night to check on my video! but then it said internet explorer not conected so Idk if it upladed or not!:/ it takes like over 2 hours for each of my videos to upload… is there something wrong with my computer!? I really want to put my video on but i cant find it either and its my dream to become famous.. or at least be on a show!:(

i submitted my vid, they posted it today at 8:30 and by 12pm it was no longer available for viewing! has this happened to anyone else? i just cannot figure this one out!

I love Shake it up and thats weird how there having a dance compition because ever sence I heard of the show I’ve been thinking they would have a dance off and then the day I saw the thing on TV for this I was like WOW ! so I would love to be on Shake it up because i’ve been in dance for 6 years ! i’m almost 10 and I started dance at 4 in a half and by the way i’m doing a youtube audition for Americas got talent as well for 2012 it’s already posted !

Your dance MUST feature any one of the songs downloaded from this link: http://makeyourmark.disney.go.com/download-song
It’s fine if you submit a video that’s shorter than the length of the song (your video must be under 45 seconds, regardless of song length), but your video cannot feature any music other than one of those four songs. The preview is just so you know what the song sounds like before you download it. The download is what you should use in your video.

If you read through the other comments on this blog entry, you will see that some people had to wait several days for their video to be uploaded to the site. I would check in on it once or twice a day to see if it’s uploaded, but don’t worry if it takes a while, since that should be expected.

Hey:) I have been dancing sense I was 3. I have taken classes at many different studios. It would be a dream to be on shake it up! I loved shake it up ever sense it came out! I have been working on my routine for about a month. I uploaded it earlier today. I was very nervous that something would go wrong with the uploading. So I was very disappointed when I searched on the “Fresh” colum for hours and never found my video. I was wondering if i didn’t do something right or it will just take a few days, if so how many at the most?

You are not the first person to ask about the 5-city talent search (it’s really confusing!). From what Disney has posted online, the city auditions are convenient for dancers who want to audition in-person and who may not have access to their own video equipment. Dancers who audition at the city auditions are taped and then they are given a code to download their auditions and submit their videos online, just like everyone else. My understanding is that their audition videos end up on the website along with the 9,500(!) other videos.
I’ve scanned through some of the online audition videos, and I haven’t found any that are obviously shot in a mall or with professional video equipment, but that’s what the city auditions page said: http://www.makeyourmarkaudition.com/, so I assume it’s true!
Hi Guys!! I love this blog, i was worried that my video hasn’t shown up yet, but now I know to wait awhile :). Once it’s up, please make sure to like it…. my friend and I have worked incredibly hard to make it…also, the thing about the 5-city talent search, is that part of “make your mark” or is it different from the posting videos online..can you clarify it a bit more?..is there a distinction between the two, other than one is live and the other is online

So I uploaded my video Thursday July 14th and they still haven’t approved it so don’t worry if they haven’t approved it yet. Me and my sister both are in the video and every morning I hear, ‘Taylor are we on yet” and I’m like “NOOOO!!!! :(” so don’t worry if your not on yet… Like Alex said up at the top of the page it took her 12 DAYS!!!

According to the official rules, dancers can submit up to 20 different routines, but the choreography must be unique to all of them.
hi i really wanna make somes moves longer than 30 seconds so doesnt the rules say we can make more than one video?……if so how many videos can we upload?…thx if you answer this question..i would appreciate it:D

I posted my video Monday and then again on Tuesday because I hadn’t heard anything or got any email telling me my video was up. How long does it take? Will they post both or the first? Are producers gonna look at all the videos?

Heyy disney blogger peepz! ok so for everyone who submitted a video but it’s still not up don’t worry.
1-I submitted my vid the very first day (July 1st) and i JUST got a confirmation email that my video is public so it took them 12 days! So good things come to those who wait. Once you upload a video you get an email that says upload complete but that doesn’t mean its up. That means it was sent to the producers. You will receive another email that says congratulations your video is ready to view then they give you a link. You WILL NOT get disqualified it you send it again. I was looking at all the other contestants videos and there is this same girl who has hers twice and she is still in. So DON’T WORRY! Disney will put up all videos (they aren’t that mean that they would only chose selected ones)
2- I checked out all of the videos posted here and ‘liked’ them (Mydajah Mandy etc) so will everyone please check out mine and “like” it :))) thank you! hope this info helped and GOOD LUCK!
