Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Blogging Disney has featured the world of Pixie Hollow on three previous occasions.

Tinker Bell

In August 2011, I blogged about the Disney Fairies Magazine and the Disney Fairies Fly mobile app: Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine.

In September 2011, I promoted the TV premiere and home video release of the Pixie Hollow Games movie with links to online games and contests. Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

And in July 2013, I gave a detailed review of one of my favorite Disney apps: Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique.

Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

Calling all Disney Fairies fans! For those of you who can’t get enough of Tinker Bell and her friends, you’ll be happy to know that the fairies are starring in a brand new animated feature, Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games, which is set to debut on the Disney Channel in October, followed by a DVD and Blu-ray release later this year.

In The Pixie Hollow Games, all of the fairies of Pixie Hollow are gathering to compete in an Olympic-style sporting event which will pit the garden fairies, tinker fairies, sparrow men, and others against the reigning champion storm fairies. At the games, the garden fairies are plagued by a legendary losing streak that new fairy Chloe (voiced by The Suite Life‘s Brenda Song) is determined to end. Find out more about Fairy Chloe here.

Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique

Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique

Several months ago, I downloaded the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app for the iPhone with the intent to write a review for Blogging Disney. I didn’t expect to enjoy playing the app as much as I did, and yet here we are, weeks later, and I am still running a fashion boutique for fairies with clientele as illustrious as Tinker Bell herself.

A middle-schooler I recently tutored saw an app notification pop up on my phone and expressed with surprise, “I didn’t know adults play Disney Fairies!” Well, we do. And we like it.

Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine

Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine

When I was in high school, I loved to collect Tinker Bell merchandise (mugs, snowglobes, stickers, etc.), but Tinker Bell wasn’t nearly as popular as the Disney Princesses at the time, and it was hard to come by quality products.

Now ten years later, thanks in part to a series of direct-to-DVD movies that focus on Tinker Bell’s adventures in Pixie Hollow with her fairy friends (Tinker Bell, Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue, Tinker Bell and the Pixie Hollow Games), Tinker Bell is more popular than ever.

The first direct-to-DVD release, Tinker Bell, came out in 2008, followed by three sequels released over the next three years, and a fourth sequel, Tinker Bell and the Mysterious Winter Woods, due in 2012. The Tinker Bell series is the first of the Disney films to feature Tinker Bell as a computer animated character who speaks, as Disney’s traditionally animated Peter Pan (1953) and Return to Neverland (2002) had the fairy communicate entirely with churlish expressions and pouty body language.

What to Watch Before Disneyland

What to Watch Before Disneyland

The waiting period between planning an exciting Disneyland vacation and actually going on the vacation can be excruciating, especially for families who book months or years in advance in order to take advantage of exclusive discounts and special offers.

In What to Watch Before Disney World, I recommended one way to while away the weeks leading up to a Disney World vacation: watch all of the films and TV shows which inspired – or were inspired by – attractions at the four major Disney World theme parks. As a companion piece to that entry, below is a chart of all the rides at Disneyland and California Adventures and the movies and TV shows that inspired them. Attractions that have closed are designated with an asterisk(*).

Try catching one or two movies per week while gearing up for your trip. Enjoy – and happy watching!
