Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Blogging Disney has featured the world of Pixie Hollow on three previous occasions.

Tinker Bell

In August 2011, I blogged about the Disney Fairies Magazine and the Disney Fairies Fly mobile app: Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine.

In September 2011, I promoted the TV premiere and home video release of the Pixie Hollow Games movie with links to online games and contests. Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

And in July 2013, I gave a detailed review of one of my favorite Disney apps: Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique.

Are you surprised there’s so much happening in the tiny, magical world of Peter Pan’s temperamental fairy sidekick? Don’t be!

Introducing the Garden Fairy Chloe, screenshot from disney.go.com/fairies/

Fans of the Disney Fairies franchise have always known the world of Tinker Bell and her friends is more than just movies, magazines and mobile apps: it’s a vast multiplayer online universe where you can create your own fairy avatar, play games, design fashions and interact with thousands of other Tinker Bell fans.

Err, well…it used to be, anyway.

As it happens, Disney shut down the Pixie Hollow online world in September 2013, just two months after I raved about the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app (which I came THISCLOSE to spending real $$$ playing). But on September 19th, Pixie Hollow vanished, and along with it, the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app.

What about Disney Fairies Fly and the Disney Fairies Magazine? Are they still around? Nope. All gone. Poof. It’s as if they never existed.

Of course, Disney can delete Pixie Hollow from the internet and remove the games from the App Store, but my blog posts are still online. I didn’t even know Disney purged the Disney Fairies universe until I received several comments from readers who couldn’t find the Fashion Boutique in the App Store. The comments were from angry Fairies fans who loved the fashion boutique app but couldn’t download it on new devices and were unable to recover the game after accidentally deleting the original download.

Pixie Hollow Closed

As a Fashion Boutique fan, the frustrations of other gamers inspired me to investigate the vanishing app. The internet isn’t always the easiest place to find things that no longer exist, but after a fair amount of Googling, I found an FAQ explaining Disney’s purge of Pixie Hollow and its related apps.

Pixie Hollow FAQ

Unfortunately, the FAQ page is a JPG image, making it inaccessible to screen readers and devices without image support, and the text can’t be read and indexed by search engines. To help the distraught Fairies fans who come to Blogging Disney looking for answers, I’ve copied Disney’s official FAQ below.

Samara I truly wish Disney would bring back Pixie Hollow but they have a long history of making a decision and sticking to it no matter what. I suppose anything is possible that Disney could bring it back but I would be very surprised……………. HAPPY …………. but very surprised. Nothing would please me more than to be proven wrong and have PH back but I can’t see it happening as Disney has moved on regardless of how many people are hurt by their business decision.

  2. Samara says:

I have been so upset since they cancelled Pixie Hollow and my cousin is too . We had lots of friends and pretty clothes and furniture and houses . I am not able to go out and run around with the other kids and so talking to others on pixie hollow and flying my fairy from meadow to meadow was kind of like walking for me . I know that probably doesn’t make sense to anyone else but it does to me , Is there any ideas what we can do to try and get them to bring it back ?

  9. bella says:

    will pixie hollow come back?

  10. Dawn says:

Samara …Disney had always said from the beginning of Pixie Hollow that would run for a period of time then close. Nothing last forever but please tell me how long was Disney suppose to keep PH up and running ? People forget Disney is a business and some times decisions have to be made as you can’t please everyone all the time.
Disney has moved on as should we all. I miss Pixie Hollow as I joined in July 2007 so I had more time there than most but its gone and is not coming back by Disney.

  11. kaylen says:

  14. Samara says:

I wish they would bring Pixie Hollow back . Is there anything that we can do to convince them . I am in a wheel chair cause I can’t walk . I was thrown off my horse and paralyzed me so I can’t do very much . Pixie Hollow became like a second home to me and I had lots of friends and talked to them every single day . My cousins had fairies in Pixie Hollow too and we would fly around together and gather ingredients . I get soooooo bored now cause there is nothing to do but sit and watch tv or try to play other games online . Nothing is like Pixie hollow . Disney said that they were going to put all their time and money into the penguin game but that game is stupid and not fun at all . My mom said there was a petition just before Pixie Hollow closed but we never saw it , She read about it a long time after Pixie Hollow closed.I hope some thing will happen to convince Disney to bring Pixie hollow back . Do you think maybe if a lot of us who played on Pixie Hollow all wrote letters to Disney about opening it that they would do it ? Thanks

  15. Dawn says:

Everything ends Dusttwinkle77……….. its called life. Just how long did you or do you think Disney should keep Pixie Hollow running for your personal pleasure, 15 years, 25 years how about forever as you are being very free with their money don’t you think ?

  16. Dusttwinkle77 says:

I loved the online world so much, plzzzzzzz plz plz plz bring it back! The online world was what made me love pixie hollow. Now i never play the games because they are boring, the whole fun part was the online world. I hope you guys are happy for ruining my life.

  17. Dawn says:

Pixie Hollow was indeed a head of its time as it was amazing on so many levels. Oh well.

  18. Skye says:

Oh, thats a shame, my friend said I should play and I never got to :(.. Also my friend Emma got a gift card for it, then it closed, she emailed the link email and she didn’t get a response (she did email them before the expiration date) HOLY COW, this is so hard to get past!

  19. Cecilia says:

OMG OMG OMG WHY WHY WHY THIS GAME WAS SO COOL AND EVERYONE LOVED IT I CANT BELIVE THEY REMOVED IT I COULD JUST ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH

  20. Dawn says:

We all miss and love Pixie Hollow but its not coming back at least not done by Disney. Its hard to move on bit move you must..not healthy hanging on to the hope Disney might bring it back because they won’t because it would have been back by now if it was coming back. Disney has moved on why can’t you.

  21. Stephy says:

I really loved pixie hollow and definitely would be happy if it came back. I’ve never found any virtual world quite as spectacular. but it probably would be good for you people to either learn to move on, because it was after all, a game, or maybe you could try something else. have any of you tried Pirate101? It’s a pretty sweet game and offers some of the same cool quirks. It also is three dimensional which some people might appreciate even more than pixie hollow’s 2D. Anyways, its not quite as cool but its definitely worth a play…

  22. Casey says:

PH was so amazing…… I haven’t found an online world like it since…… It was just so much fun! It ran well, it had cool clothes and furniture, and was a total blast…. I’m so sad it ended….. Whatever. Maybe they will bring it back.

  23. Dawn says:

Disney is famous for doing whatever they want regardless of who they hurt. They don’t care about the hundreds of kids and parents who love and miss Pixie Hollow. It would be the biggest surprise of the century if Disney did bring back Pixie Hollow. PH had a self life and an end date which was made clear back when I signed up and true their word it closed. Its closure was not about money they don’t have its about money they don’t want to spend if they can avoid ….. like any business. Over 700 people lost their jobs with Disney when the three games were shut down… its all about saving not spending because they could if they want bring it back better than before. Also it bares noting in the last year or so there were far more non paying members than paying members and the foul language was becoming a major problem. Kids and I mean little kids were being bullied on PH…. hard to believe but all to true and many parents were complaining to Disney. I am not 100% sure but there may have been a law suit or two filed against Disney but this is what heard from a former moderator when I was on the six week moderator project to help Pixie Hollow out. I handed out so many day suspensions then week suspensions then for further action I would pass the info on to a regular moderator for deletion if necessary . It was a real mess at the end.

  24. Myrna says:

as i a mother of a nine year old girl, always asking about her fairy what happened to her… not her only, me also asking about this game particularly, my daughter have enjoyed this game a lot, flying around pixie hollow as a fairy… it made her eyes sprinkle with imagination… it is really a beautiful, fun, amazing game… that I and my daughter enjoyed every time we have played it…

as mother we are asking you to bring this game back again, kids these in times needs of something imaginary world…

please, do think of our request and return the game back

  25. Speedysparkle says:

I really miss this game I want to mention that I am an adult and I played this game since 2009.It was so magic I really enjoyed I had my fairy it was magic for me.I am a married woman and whenever I had time I played the game and I have spend quit a lot of time because I didn’t realised that the time is flying.I sometimes check on internet to see if the game is on again.I still don’t understand way they had to close it.so many children and adults played this game. But my opinion is that they are selfish they don’t care about people feelings. All of us would like to have our fairies back because it was like a part of us and now is gone.I am really disappointed.I wish you the best speedysparkle ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. Dawn says:

Joanna my arrival day was July 28 2007 which made me a Founding Fairy and I enjoyed all of my time in the Hollow. From the very beginning of Pixie Hollow Disney had always said it would have a life then be retired so closure was always going to happen. In June of 2013 I was asked to participate in a pilot program which was to have a few Founding Fairies who were online a great deal. For six weeks I was a moderator keeping an eye out for trouble. I was not allowed to make any friends in that time frame to avoid favoritism and many Fairies could not understand why I could be their friend which hurt me. When the news came out about the closing even the Fairies who I knew were Disney moderators did not know the reason other than it was in the works from the beginning. Yes Pixie was and will always be amazing but to try and tell a company how to do its business is not right, how would you react if Disney were to dictate to you about how you live or watch TV or surf the web……….. you would say its none of their business. PH closed Sept 2013 and maybe that was the original close date or maybe they closed a year sooner because of bulling but we will never know because it is none of our business. I miss PH every day and I had six and a half years and some only got a year or two or less but its gone and it is not coming back. Even the people I knew as Disney moderators were let go and remember this regardless of how much money you think Disney has they are always looking for ways to cut and PH was just one of them. There were far more free memberships than paying memberships which hurt the survival of Pixie Hollow.

  27. fathima says:

pleese bring pixie hallow back!i miss it soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much.the O’s show how mush i miss it.pleese pleese pleese bring it back non of the other disney faries games are sooooooooooo boring.

  28. Joanna says:

It is ironic I found this website today as I wrote disney once more about pixie hollow. Look I’m not a kid, im and adult who loved playing pixie hollow. Of course I miss it and I have moved on to playing other games. But there isn’t another game that was like pixie hollow.the virtual world was unlike any I’ve ever seen. It was beautiful. Especially during holidays. This time of year I remember changing into costumes and trick or treating. As an adult, I don’t trick or treat but it was fun to see what items we got for home or planting, dyes, silly sweets… It was fun. Since they closed I am always looking for reason why they closed and I found some really negative comments. Girlfriend and boyfriend contest, which I never participated in, I never understood what these contest were when they were whispered to me. I just wanted to fly decorate my house change clothes collect ingredients.. Complete challenges. It was my down time from work something that melted my stress away from work. To be a “fairy” and fly. The negative comments I read it was talking about cyber bullying. But while on occasion I met that negative trouble making fairy, I ignored them and flew away even changed server room so not to run into them again. Maybe my being an adult I knew to do this and a child might just want to understand why they were being mean. But a few rotten apples don’t really ruin a crop. In this case it obviously did. Dawn no matter how much money you think it took to run this website you can’t say disney doesn’t make money on all it various merchandise. How much could one little website cost that is going to throw them into bankruptcy? Seriously don’t say it cost to much to run the virtual world when Disney has such wealth in all its products. It is more rational to say they closed because of a few rotten fairies that they didn’t know how to handle by banning them. Or not having moderators, someone to report the misbehaving fairy to ban their account. You know an adult who played that reported the fairy bullying and not the fairy who didn’t say yes to a friend request. That’s not bully. It’s knowing your limitations. Even I denied friend requests. I wasn’t mean though, just knew that I was dealing with children, who didn’t know I was an adult. Never discussed anything adult, just encourage achievements. When making accounts disney knew the age of the players because they had you put in your date of birth. They could have ask athe adults who play regularly to be moderators, volunteer to browse the website for the bullying fairy. Instead they closed the site. I have to be honest when saying even I, as an adult, have been very sad about the loss of pixie hollow. Life just doesn’t feel the same without the virtual world. That even for a moment in my day made me smile and feel like a kid again. I got to pretend… Taking that away from child and adults alike, it’s just sad. Club penguin which I did try, it’s awful. For me it was difficult to play and wasn’t fun. It was boring. Just my comment. I didn’t even get to enjoy the last days at the hollow as I was dealing with the death of my grandmother. I sure do miss it and I haven’t seen any new disney apps like they said they were focusing on, their progress.

  29. Sophie says:

I played Pixie Hollow for four years and it was the best game I ever played, I have been waiting ever since they closed it to reopen it again but no such luck it has been a year and they haven’t brought it back. I gave up waiting for it to open, it just going to happen, Disney says they are “focusing on mobile experiences” but that is just another way of saying ‘focusing on Club Penguin.’ I advise you all Pixie Hollow lovers to move on like I did, and find another virtual world that isn’t owned by Disney so it won’t be closed soon.

  30. Dawn says:

Amazing you kids never read any previous posts you just continue to rant “bring it back” “why did it leave” yet there are reasons given but you must be too young to read and understand them. Pixie Hollow is not coming back..sad but very true.

  31. kiran says:

please bring it back we all love the pixie hollow world it helps if you are bored why did Disney shut it down

  32. Dawn says:

“Bring it back” and who should pay to bring it back …Disney…good luck with that. Always a smart move telling someone else how to spend their money.

  33. Jessica says:

bring it back…bring it back…BRING IT BACK!I just now found out after searching on all of google even yahoo just to play my account. oh And by the way I actually am criying now ;(

  34. Dawn says:

Listen publicly Disney says they care but behind closed doors its all about business as you will find out one day when you start earning money to support yourself. When what is going out is more than what is coming in changes have to be made regardless of how many little girls are hurt. Lets be fair it is “their” money yet we are telling them how to spend it which is not fair at all. Does Disney tell you how to spend your allowance or how long you can be on your computer no so the same goes for “their” business which at the end of the that is all that it is and if it looses money its gone plain and simple. Besides Disney did say back in 2007 that PH would have a life span then be retired as they said it at the time so it was always going to close. Just how long did you or do you think Disney should keep PH a float…… 7 years or 10 years or 15 years ……. please tell me cause I would like hear how long you would keep it open while its loosing money ??

  35. mia says:

because if they were saving money they wouldn’t have club penguin!!!!!!! disney is crushing little girls dreams!

  36. mia says:

hold on a sec…….. how come the are saving money ( i did air quotes) for PH ? u know they are not1 because how come they have club penguin?

  37. Dawn says:

It won’t be back by Disney , why can’t you understand and accept this ?

  38. Sarah says:

I wish this game would come back!! I was feeling a bit nostalgic and wanted to play again ๐Ÿ™ so disappointed.

  39. sasha says:

bring back PH plez this was a great game bring it back!

  40. Dawn says:

Disney always said from day one that Pixie Hollow close one day and that day was Sept 19 2013. Just how long was Disney suppose to keep PH going to satisfy fans…. seven years like it did or ten years or twenty? Many people are very selfish with someone else’s money (Disney). These Fairies want Disney to use its own money to bring PH back and keep it afloat just so a few can have their PH fix everyday. Big business does not make money by sinking money to make a few happy. I loved PH as much as anyone but it costs big money to keep a game like PH online and here is something to think about even it was making money there was a timeline for closure and that’s it. All the stuff in our homes ..our pets ..everything was deleted last year so its not there to bring back and to recreate it all would cost way because of inflation but Fairies don’t want to hear this kind of stuff they just want it back and don’t care who has to pay for it.

  41. zenhuster says:

i want to play again.I really loved that game. Why would you turn away from it? Will it return back anytime? What other games have you made to turn to use your materials and time for? What other virtual game sites do you have? Is there any other games similiar to pixie hollow?

  42. Crystal says:

I loved being in the PH world it was a home away where I actually found a great friend & sister to be with!! Plus my favorite bug was there as well: a purple butterfly; named it Rainshimmer. I loved flying about with Rain and my sister having fun playing games & such. Once the game was gone i thought that they would bring it back but i found out they are focusing moreso on that stupid club penguin than anything else. Sadly to say PH is gone forever no longer coming back; also that pixie pirate movie they made was the last one; no more pixie movies being made at all. Sorry everyone but our home is gone forever; yet I would be quite surprised to see someday it comes back in full force though!!!!

  43. Alyssa says:

I remember when I got the magazine–I still have the first issue! I thought the game was the most wonderful online game ever, and I was so sad to see it go. I had the same fairy since it first went online, even one of the original starter outfits. I even won second place in one of their contests. I really miss all the Pixie Hollow stuff. I understand that they wanted to invest in other things, but couldn’t they have just left the game up?

  44. Jocelyn says:

I still have the app game that’s so cool

  45. Dawn says:

I joined the Hollow in 2007 and was there right to the very end. I would love to see PH make a return but I doubt Disney will do that as they have moved on leaving us loyal Fairies sitting in the dust. I am sure all of our homes our furniture and our cloths and our pets have long since been deleted. Not practical to keep all that information unless you plan to bring it back. No hints not rumors just silence from Disney.
R.I.P. Pixie Hollow. It was a great place to be a kid.

  46. Britt says:

I miss pixie hollow! I was a nine month member! I had a cat and a boy friend! and I miss it all! I had a college and queen boutique dresses!!! :'(

  47. patricia says:

please PLEASE bring pixie hollow back!!!!!

  48. Daisy says:

The fashion boutique was an amazing game but…….
Pixie Hollow was clearly MUCH better than any virtual world. Easy to navigate, easy to understand, but was a WONDERFUL and complex game with so much depth. Once you play Pixie Hollow for long, you are a permanent fairy. Something amazing to spend your time on.

  49. Kayla says:

I really loved that game. Why would you turn away from it? Will it return back anytime? What other games have you made to turn to use your materials and time for? What other virtual game sites do you have? Is there any other games similiar to pixie hollow?

  50. jaycie says:

yeah but what is there playin website.
