Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Blogging Disney has featured the world of Pixie Hollow on three previous occasions.

Tinker Bell

In August 2011, I blogged about the Disney Fairies Magazine and the Disney Fairies Fly mobile app: Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine.

In September 2011, I promoted the TV premiere and home video release of the Pixie Hollow Games movie with links to online games and contests. Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

And in July 2013, I gave a detailed review of one of my favorite Disney apps: Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique.

Are you surprised there’s so much happening in the tiny, magical world of Peter Pan’s temperamental fairy sidekick? Don’t be!

Introducing the Garden Fairy Chloe, screenshot from disney.go.com/fairies/

Fans of the Disney Fairies franchise have always known the world of Tinker Bell and her friends is more than just movies, magazines and mobile apps: it’s a vast multiplayer online universe where you can create your own fairy avatar, play games, design fashions and interact with thousands of other Tinker Bell fans.

Err, well…it used to be, anyway.

As it happens, Disney shut down the Pixie Hollow online world in September 2013, just two months after I raved about the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app (which I came THISCLOSE to spending real $$$ playing). But on September 19th, Pixie Hollow vanished, and along with it, the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app.

What about Disney Fairies Fly and the Disney Fairies Magazine? Are they still around? Nope. All gone. Poof. It’s as if they never existed.

Of course, Disney can delete Pixie Hollow from the internet and remove the games from the App Store, but my blog posts are still online. I didn’t even know Disney purged the Disney Fairies universe until I received several comments from readers who couldn’t find the Fashion Boutique in the App Store. The comments were from angry Fairies fans who loved the fashion boutique app but couldn’t download it on new devices and were unable to recover the game after accidentally deleting the original download.

Pixie Hollow Closed

As a Fashion Boutique fan, the frustrations of other gamers inspired me to investigate the vanishing app. The internet isn’t always the easiest place to find things that no longer exist, but after a fair amount of Googling, I found an FAQ explaining Disney’s purge of Pixie Hollow and its related apps.

Pixie Hollow FAQ

Unfortunately, the FAQ page is a JPG image, making it inaccessible to screen readers and devices without image support, and the text can’t be read and indexed by search engines. To help the distraught Fairies fans who come to Blogging Disney looking for answers, I’ve copied Disney’s official FAQ below.

I remember the days when I could fly around and race animals with friends. Then I’d go on adventures and play games all day. I was an animal talent and loved pixie hollow with all my heart. Why would they take away something that brought people so much joy. It wasn’t even just a “girls game” There where guys playing it too. That says a lot about that place. It was a great escape from harsh reality. I miss Pixie Hollow so much. πŸ™

  2. Dawn says:

Dear PrettyPurpleVMF your reason is the complete opposite of the facts. Disney allowed far to many people to join for “free”. How do you expect to run a company and a game like Pixie Hollow if no one is paying the bill………. yes it costs money to keep a site like PH running and there were far to many freeloaders playing. I had a full membership and I take offense when I think back on just how many people were using PH for free.
However this reason (or yours) i not the reason why PH closed and perhaps we will never really know. I do know that Disney had a business plan to open Pixie Hollow back in 2007 and run it then in time close it and move on to other projects. One thing is true Disney had a plan to close Pixie Hollow but whether tat was Sept 2013 or in 2014 or maybe even 2015 but it was going to close maybe sooner but we will never know.

I played Pixie Hollow my whole life. It’s been well over a year and my world is still shattered by the sudden closing of this game. This game meant so much to me and my friends. Without it I don’t even see the clarity in life. This game was my only happiness. Whoever decided to close this site deserves h*ll and back.

  5. PrettyPurpleVMF says:

Who wants to know the REAL reason of why Pixie Hollow closed down? Answer: Everyone left because Disney added in diamonds πŸ™ If you weren’t a member and could pay for clothes and furniture with dandelion puffs, seeds, webs etc., you had to pay with diamonds! You had to pay real money for diamonds! Why Disney why!? I really liked Pixie Hollow before there were diamonds! Everyone left because of the diamonds and you knew that was the reason! You just wanted to blame it on Club Penguin! BTW I dislike CP!!!! For once Disney fix your Internet mistakes!!

  6. Rach828 says:

My arrival day was 28 July 2007 and I loved Pixie Hollow with all my heart. I was very fortunate to be one of the first when it started.

I’ve been in pixie hollow since 2012. And it really hurts a lot. I really wish they could bring it back. #Hoping

  11. Paris says:

i literally cried when this happened last year

    please bring it back
    please

  12. Dawn says:

Unlikely but I guess anything is possible ?????????

  13. Tinkerbell Watcher says:

I have heard that Pixie Hollow will reopen, is that true? I recently started to watch a Tinkerbell marathon of all the Tinkerbell movies. I was hoping that I could play the game. So, if the rumor is true about Pixie Hollow reopening, please do it soon.

  14. Dawn says:

The girls parents might have filed a law suit against Disney because when the name Disney appears people only see dollar signs. I could see why Disney closed it down and its a shame when a few spoil things for the many.

  15. Jade Shinymist says:

I think Pixie Hollow closed down because of that incident that happened recently where a man kidnapped this girl he met on Pixie Hollow and he was arrested. Apparently they talked and met in Pixie Hollow and then he came for her.

But the whole thing sounds preposterous to me! I mean just for that one incident they closed down our Hollow.
And also, Pixie Hollow had a safer chat system than this Club Penguin! It just doesn’t make sense.

P.S. If my name rings a bell, and you happen to remember me from Pixie Hollow please send me an email at jade.shinymist@gmail.com. I’d love to meet my old friends!

  16. Dawn says:

    not the same

  17. fairy says:

you can still play pixie hollow just type in: create a fairy- pixie hollow uk

  18. Dawn says:

You want a idea how about creating a rally at say Disney World outside of the Magic Kingdom, invite the media have signs …air our love of Pixie Hollow. Disney figures we can’t organize something that big so they are not worried.
Its a start what is your idea ???

  19. Dawn says:

Disney will never take a bunch of kids seriously …. never but important adults who have kids that love Pixie Hollow ….. that is the point I was trying to convey. With out an angle we can never hope to convince Disney to even consider bringing PH back let alone doing it. As kids we have no power to bring back Pixie Hollow.

  20. Ashton says:

I think that that is a very good point, as you have stated it before. The only problem is that the people who you are recommending we get on “our” side are not the target audience and will most likely not want to join us. Why would Disney open PH back up for, lets say, Zac Efron? He isn’t the target audience. (By the way I hope that I am not being offensive I am only challenging you and asking questions to make better judgement.)

  21. Dawn says:

To make any campaign successful you need an angle. Just a bunch of kids is not going to change Disney’s mind. However as I said before if you know say an big American movie star or know a American Senator or Congress person then we might have a chance. We would need important people on our side then Disney “might” listen. People who have children who have played and loved Pixie Hollow as we do. You do see what I am getting at……….. on our own we don’t stand a chance but get important adults or internet clubs like Facebook on our side then maybe … just maybe Disney will listen. Let me know what you think.

  22. Ashton says:

We haven’t heard anything from the board but it doesn’t look like anything is going to happen. All we can do it start talk about it to maybe get someone’s attention. You can sign this petition and go on various websites that may have gone stale just to show that we are still making an effort.

    Petition- http://www.thepetitionsite.com/774/148/779/reopen-pixie-hollow/

  23. Scarlett says:

does anyone know if Pixie Hollow has the slightest chance of coming back? </3

  24. Ashton says:

Thank you for saying that and I completely agree. It is crushing to think that it may never come back. I’m not blindly hopeful that it could come back. I know the realization that it is gone and it was a business decision but if no one ever spoke up about it then nothing would ever happen. At least by voicing that we do miss it it could get us attention instead of staying silent and letting them forget about us and PH.

  25. Dawn says:

As a Founding Fairy I had a six week trial job as a moderator so I know the feeling people are having. I miss Pixie Hollow everyday and nothing please me more than the Hollow to back and each and everyone of saying to me Dawn we told you so. I read how petitions are being started again but its all wasted on Disney. The moderators that I knew in June of 2013 all lost their jobs and none of them knows why. We may never know the real reason why (if there is one) why Disney closed PH but I do know they had a business plan which called for Hollow to run for a period of then be “retired” and that is what happen until we hear other wise. Disney has never reversed any of their past business decisions because its a business which does not take into account little girl or boys feelings… its just a business to them even though we have always emailed them telling them how amazing PH was. Real life is really ugly and breaks my heart to read people clinging to misguided hope of it returning. Disney has moved and is not looking back

  26. Ashton says:

I agree with you, Disney-Blogger. Not to be offensive Dawn. I understand that you are just trying to get people to understand that it is gone and it is (most likely) not coming back. But, you should empathize and instead of coming off so harsh you could say something like “i’m disappointed too but it isn’t coming back,”. Instead you are attacking the other people and making them feel bad for expressing how they feel about it closing.

  27. Disney-Blogger says:

    Dawn,

This is a forum for Disney fans to talk about Disney, not a forum to criticize people for being fans. Please keep your comments respectful. I enjoy hearing from Pixie Hollow fans who are disappointed the site closed. Although I only briefly played on the website, I loved the boutique game, and I was sorry to see Disney made the decision to shut it all down.

I have been a member of a non-Disney “virtual world” for more than a decade, and I know how disappointed/frustrated/sad I would be if the site shut down. Disney made a business decision to close Pixie Hollow, and that was their right, just as fans of Pixie Hollow have the right to lament the closing. Pixie Hollow was a magical place for a lot of users who are disappointed it’s gone, and rightfully so.

  28. Dawn says:

Like I have said over and over and over again Disney made a business decision to close Pixie Hollow. Regardless of what I or you may think of this decision it was made and Disney never reverses a decision once it has been made. Disney said in clear English back in 2007 that Pixie Hollow would be active for a time then retire which it has. Yes it was amazing and we all loved it and still do but its gone and is not coming back by Disney. I wish you kids would read this and understand its gone..Disney has moved on why can’t you ??

  29. natalia says:

i think that it is ridiciolous it is making them money i played it for three years and it was really fun coming home doing homework and then playing it for hours .i thought it was magneficent and then they shut it down it was lucky i have the boutique game in my i cloud so i still have that game .and the other remaining things are the books thats all thats left sadly i now know that it is almost all the way gone !!!!

  30. karinabeautyjewel says:

How heartbreaking of this universe of games is closed!! How could you people do this to me ! I made so many friends that i didn’t even know was going to my school and playing that game. I seriously use to play that game every day even after i reach home from school. I even use to enjoy making videos and posting on utube with my best friend who I met in the game which was Emma sugarheart. Even though the game is gone I still want to thank Disney for creating the game because if it wasn’t for them I would not discover my best friend emma who is living in my countr lol happily πŸ™‚ Any ways if the can bring it back i would apreciate it πŸ™‚

  31. Dawn says:

Disney knows how you and I and others feel about Pixie Hollow and they are of the opinion in time all will move on. If you want to make a difference is your Father or Mother a US Senator or in Congress because if you can get buzz going around any of these two you will get Disney’s attention. I still think it would mean nothing but as it goes now they don’t care and consider PH a dead issue.

  32. Emerald Seafoam says:

I am really sad that it closed down. But I’m so happy to have gotten the chance to play there for four years! Thanks for all the wonderful memories Pixie Hollow! And thank you for all the amazing friends I met and continue to be friends with..
    Farewell my lovely Hollow…Em <3

  33. Ashton says:

I think you’re underestimating my ability to comprehend the truth behind Disney. I completely understand that there was a business decision involved but if people sign the petition (which is on an off-brand, hard to find website) then it will probably make no difference to the company. They make the decisions in the best interest of the company and not the audience. But that does not mean that if someone were to stumble upon it and see that even a year later people are still buzzing about pixie hollow then they might at least have a discussion about whether or not to reopen it. Once again I am not hopeful and the chances are slim but why give up when there is still a sliver of hope?

  34. Dawn says:

A petition was started when the Hollow was still open and it meant nothing to Disney and doing up a new one will end the same. Disney does not bow to petitions. They are running a business which can not be run by the heart or the share holders would have a fit.You have to get past the idea Disney is a land of dreams……….. ITS A BUSINESS and a business decision was made to close the Hollow and that is that. Wishing upon a star is wonderful for really small kids but for anyone over 8 the reality is its gone. Do you still believe in Santa Claus … I think not.

  35. Ashton says:

Go to this website and sign the petition!!!
    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/774/148/779/reopen-pixie-hollow/

Who knows what will happen but every signature counts! It’s unlikely that anything will happen but at least we can show people that there are enough of us that care!!! Spread the word to everyone you know who plays.

  36. Alice says:

I used to play on pixie hollow when I was a lot younger, like when it first came out. My friends and I would play together and we had so much fun. Soon after I made my account I became a member and I loved playing. I stopped playing for a year or two when I got older and then one day I remembered it and got the urge to play. Unfortunately when I went to log-in the site was shut down and I was redirected to an FAQ page. I tried to get with the new pixie hollow but it really wasn’t as fun. Sometimes I go online and check to see if maybe they set pixie hollow up again and am always disappointed. I wish that they would reopen the old pixie hollow. I (and three of my friends) would all buy memberships if the old pixie hollow opened again.

  37. Dawn says:

    and illegal

  38. Bunny78431 says:

Their is a weird new version and it’s. Totally complacated

  39. Bunny78431 says:

I have played pixie hollow a lot i have had the best of friends lol I do miss them, and I loved to be a free member before it closed and I would of got a member ship before then but then I heard it was closeing and was sad

  40. Nona says:

    I want Pixie Hollow again

  41. Dawn says:

You just don’t understand Disney never goes back on any business decision no matter what you or I may think of it. Its gone and that is that.

  42. I people who closed pixie hollow! says:

I PLAYED IT ALL THE TIME!!! I’M WITH CINNAMON! I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU CLOSED IT YOU SHOULD OPEN IT AGAIN AND MAKE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH MONEY!

  43. sudha says:

i want to play it again. and if you bring it back again give a number on which we can submit so money for pixie hollow

  44. sudha says:

please bring the real and virtual pixie hollow game back . i miss that game and it is very nice .plsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss bring that game back again.

  45. Dawn says:

Seamist check this out as the earliest you could have started is 2007. I started on 28 July 2007 and I know of only one other from April 2007… keep in mind 2007 was the beta version. Pixie Hollow officially started Sept 8 2008.
    http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Pixie_Hollow_%28Fairies_Online%29

  46. Seamist says:

ikr! i played ph online since it started and last year was my 7th year (2006-2013). miss it so much. Honestly, it was the best multiplayer game ever (in my opinion)

  47. Whywaht1234 says:

I used to play this game when I was younger. I am a bit sad to see it go, but I guess they have their reasons. I feel bad for all the kids who had payed memberships and loved the game. I also loved the freedom of this game, and the amount of customization available.

  48. kaitlyn says:

    πŸ™ i haven’t played this game in years and its closed……………………………. ;(

  49. Dawn says:

Money only played a small part in it. No one seems to understand back when Pixie Hollow first (and I was there since July 28th 2007 ) started Disney had always said PH would have a life then it would be discontinued. If they “REALLY” wanted to bring it back it would be back bigger and better than before.
I keep asking the same question but no one here or on the internet will answer me…. just how long in your opinion was Disney to keep this game going…ten years….25 years…or forever ??? Everyone is keen to tell Disney how to spend “THEIR” money. From the very start of PH only paid memberships should have been the way to go. There were way to many “free” memberships allowed so revenue fell yet you all feel so what keep PH a float because its not your money. If Disney were to come into your life and start telling you how to spend your money you would be singing a different tune.
If its meant to be that PH come back it will but I doubt it cause once Disney makes a business decision they stick to it.

  50. Cinnamon says:

Okay, PIXIE HOLLOW CLOSED DOWN BC OF MONEY! IF THEY BROUGHT PIXIE HOLLOW BACK, THEN THEY WOULD BE MAKING MORE MONEY THAN THEY EVER DID BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM SOOOOOO SAD RIGHT NOW! IM ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT PIXIE HOLLOW. πŸ™ I PLAYED IT LIKE: 24/7
