Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Blogging Disney has featured the world of Pixie Hollow on three previous occasions.

Tinker Bell

In August 2011, I blogged about the Disney Fairies Magazine and the Disney Fairies Fly mobile app: Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine.

In September 2011, I promoted the TV premiere and home video release of the Pixie Hollow Games movie with links to online games and contests. Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

And in July 2013, I gave a detailed review of one of my favorite Disney apps: Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique.

Are you surprised there’s so much happening in the tiny, magical world of Peter Pan’s temperamental fairy sidekick? Don’t be!

Introducing the Garden Fairy Chloe, screenshot from disney.go.com/fairies/

Fans of the Disney Fairies franchise have always known the world of Tinker Bell and her friends is more than just movies, magazines and mobile apps: it’s a vast multiplayer online universe where you can create your own fairy avatar, play games, design fashions and interact with thousands of other Tinker Bell fans.

Err, well…it used to be, anyway.

As it happens, Disney shut down the Pixie Hollow online world in September 2013, just two months after I raved about the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app (which I came THISCLOSE to spending real $$$ playing). But on September 19th, Pixie Hollow vanished, and along with it, the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app.

What about Disney Fairies Fly and the Disney Fairies Magazine? Are they still around? Nope. All gone. Poof. It’s as if they never existed.

Of course, Disney can delete Pixie Hollow from the internet and remove the games from the App Store, but my blog posts are still online. I didn’t even know Disney purged the Disney Fairies universe until I received several comments from readers who couldn’t find the Fashion Boutique in the App Store. The comments were from angry Fairies fans who loved the fashion boutique app but couldn’t download it on new devices and were unable to recover the game after accidentally deleting the original download.

Pixie Hollow Closed

As a Fashion Boutique fan, the frustrations of other gamers inspired me to investigate the vanishing app. The internet isn’t always the easiest place to find things that no longer exist, but after a fair amount of Googling, I found an FAQ explaining Disney’s purge of Pixie Hollow and its related apps.

Pixie Hollow FAQ

Unfortunately, the FAQ page is a JPG image, making it inaccessible to screen readers and devices without image support, and the text can’t be read and indexed by search engines. To help the distraught Fairies fans who come to Blogging Disney looking for answers, I’ve copied Disney’s official FAQ below.

eliza you are talking to deaf people at Disney who made a business decision and are sticking to it besides all that info… your house my house your cloths my cloths your pet my pet is more than likely been deleted long ago so there is nothing to bring back plus they would have to rehire all of the 700 people they let go. Disney has moved on and so should we.

  11. eliza says:

I’m so disappointed that you did that.

PIXIE HOLLOW WE NEED YOU BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Tink says:

Why. Just Why. I will tell you this now- I am not popular. PH was my refuge from that! I survived pretty much because of that! Come on Disney! You were my fav for everything. Now I’m not even going to watch your tv channels, because you ruined those, too! I understand if you won’t read this, or care. But I hope you know- you have a lot less followers.

  19. Dawn says:

The main reason given was that it was a business decision. From day one back in 2007 Disney had always said it would run for a period of time then stop. Disney had always said it would close and that is what happened. There might a few other reasons that hastened the closure soon rather than later but Disney gave any more than that. Also I might point out that swearing at them is not going to make them change their minds.

  20. Sad Silvermist says:

I’m so sad!!! Will you guys bring it back please?! I promise I’ll buy membership if you do I’ll do anything PLEASE! I never downloaded the Boutique game and I really wanted to!!! Even the website is gone. I’m very disappointed Disney. Walt wouldn’t have wanted this πŸ™

  21. WantPHback says:

And besides that, you didn’t tell us why you deleted it
    What happened?
I read this post carefully and I noticed the absence of a REAL REASON of deletin’ the game, dude

  22. WantPHback says:

Are you kiddin’ me? I loved this game so much and I used to play it everytime. It was my escape from stress from the age of 9 to 11. Seriously, what the hell do you want? I don’t understand
Why did you create it ? You got kids from all over the world playing your game now you’re just messin’ up with us. I loved it and I’m still lovin’ it even if I’m 13. It was a part of my childhood.
Oh god I remembered how happy I was when my parents finally allowed me to spend money in this game….There’re thousands of games you could delete but why this one??!! I don’t understand why are you makin’ such decisions. Anyway, Ik this message ain’t important at all for y’all but you ruined kids’ work. (obvously, my work counts) I’ll wait hopefully…Maybe you’ll change your mind and realize how stupid y’all were.

  23. WantPHback says:

Are you kidding me?? I loved this game and I used to play it everyday, it was my escape from stress from the age of 9 to 11…B

  24. Yvon says:

    It’s pronounced YA- VON
    I’m 19 years young btw
Okay so like I really loved pixie hollow. It was my lyfeee. I got marred on there and had a famely of butterfly’s they were my children and they were and rainbow purple sparkle kitty cat. My favorite won was Sparklez. I spent 10,000000000 million dollars on thus gameeee! I wanted a refund so my husband in pixie hollowr thinks I ad zoned him . But I was marred in realz life tho. And he found. Out I would marry my husband Fantastybug46 he divorced me and took my pixie money and got a new girlfriend named Shawana. << she's really mean and has no sparkle to her like me. One day I found so,wine who had this magical pixie dust that would turn me into a for realz fairy. So mow I use it every day and I live in Pixie Hollow. Does anyone want any?. Is thud anyway you could braing it bak? I rule miss my husband and my butterfly children. Plz bring it back. I need to buy my fairy a new dress or I will literally die :(((((. PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. – Butterfly_fly_away2468

  25. Miranda says:

This was an RPG that I never got sick of. The atmosphere was fantastic, the customization was great, everything about this game was amazing! It was a huge loss to close this game. The RPGs you are trying to create now Disney are never going to be just as great as this one. I started playing this when I was 10 up to 13 and I used to give all my free time to it. It was an escape from stress. I’m 17 now and I’m remembering my childhood and this was a huge part of it. I really want it back. Please Disney, we don’t need constant updates or new features. Please bring Pixiehollow back, a game I loved so much that created so much imagination in my childhood. It really was more then just a little fairy game.

  26. Dawn says:

I have a question, how many here were “full” paying members while Pixie Hollow was active. I had a fully paid account since 2007 and how many are going to tell the truth or lie. One reason I know PH stopped was to many played for free and never bought a membership and perhaps if more had bought a membership PH would still be open. Clearly not having a membership hurt PH.

  27. deborah says:

my now 12 year old daughter used to play on pixie hollow all the time, she love it, she had so many friends on there, since pixie hollow closed she has been slowly losing inerest in the on line games, she will try new ones but really doesnt like them, she still tells me how much she misses playing pixiehollo.com, i think it was a huge mistake for disney to ruin the fun the kids were having, my daughter had worked so hard building up her account, and for what? disney took away all of the hard wofk that thousands of kids had done on the accounts they had built up, to me its so mean

  28. Sarah says:

honestly i loved this game to death, idk why they had to close it. Can they somehow bring it back? like for reaaaaaaaaal

  29. amme says:

    i miss it soooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Dawn says:

A petition means nothing to Disney they made a business decision in closing PH and that is that. As I have said before if you want to take on Disney you have to go big real big or stay home. Example do you know kid who has a Mother or Father who an American sitting Senator or Congregational cause these are the kinds of people Disney “might” listen to. Does a billionaire like Bill Gates have a daughter who was a PH Fairy cause he is kind of important. A petition from a few thousand kids is hardly going to convince Disney to spend money and recreate Pixie Hollow because you do realize all that information has been long deleted. Don’t forget they let go of several hundred people who ran the games so they would have to be rehired if any of them are still unemployed. Perhaps if you guarantee Disney that 10,000 kids will buy full memberships they would consider bring it back because what incentive does Disney have to spend their money to bring it back cause to do remember Disney aside from everything else is a business out to make money not give it away.

  31. Sherry says:

I know this page may have been posted a couple years back. But I strongly believe that if we gather up enough people who care as much as the people above (which I remind you that they are commenting about missing the game 2 years later), we may still have a chance to bring PH back. Ever since the closing of PH, I have signed and been checking in on one particular petition on change.org. They were told to get to 5,000 signatures and had only about 3,000. Sadly, the petition is closed. I say we join together and rise. Hand to hand, wing to wing, we fly. Fly with you.

  32. Dawn says:

If only it would come back but……………………

  33. Cool kid129 says:

I HATE YOU!!!! but I know it’s comeing back

  34. Samantha says:

I don’t think it’s fair they would close down. I loved that game! I quit a for a year or so and then decided to come back, realizing I missed it. When I came back, it said I had membership and I later found out the game was closing. I was devastated to hear that! I played as much as I could before the closure, but I could never get enough of it.

  35. NoNeedForMyName says:

WHY YOU CLOSE THIS!!! I MEAN SERIOUSLY WHY!!! >:( when i was 5 or 6 I LOVED to play pixie hollow! I have no clue if this is the same one but I think it is! anyway I stopped playing when I was about 6 or 7, now I am 10, looking for the game again, all I find is a bunch of bull poop that is not even CLOSE to the game, I find this, I like this: “wait, what!?! D:” after reading this: “FUDGE YOU DISNEY THIS WAS MY CHILD HOOD GAME!!! I’M NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE SAME ONE OR NOT, BUT IT IS CLOSE!!!” if I find the game (if this is not it, update?) and it’s open, I will post another saying sorry for all the rage and sadness I put in this reply, so I bid you, *shouting at disney, not anyone else, anyone else besides disney, bye :P* GOOD DAY CHILDHOOD BREAKERS!!! >:(

  36. Ames says:

I still have my fairy boutique game on my iPad but of course the social aspect doesn’t work. However, last night my fairy customers flew in upside down. I am 29 and will always be a disney kid at heart.

  37. Dawn says:

Its gone so it was just a sick joke again……….. some people have nothing better to do and I feel they are part of the reason PH was deleted.

  38. Dawn says:

Check out further down as it says PH will reopen June 2015.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixie_Hollow_%28video_game%29
Its on Wiki which has not changed since I saw it last week and they are very good at fixing fraud on their site. I guess we just have to wait and see.

  39. natalia says:

  40. Kristen says:

… Seriously Disney another online game gone? First Toon town and now this?.. its a shame on how many things you are taken away after people pay so much for…. and loose everything at the end because of you even Pirates of the Caribbean Online, and cars online… are you kidding me right now? now i know to never buy anything from y’all in game.. because sooner or later it will be deleted.

  41. Dawn says:

I guess anything can happen but its unlikely that it will return.

  42. Elaina says:

Will it ever come back and when?

  43. Angelina says:

they still have pixie hollow games@ games.disney.com/

  44. Maomi says:

I didn’t really understand why they closed it? I mean isn’t it simpler to just make the game a little simpler than closing it down completely? Eh, c’est la vie. We must move on.

  45. Dawn says:

    Maybe because of your spelling.

  46. tanya says:

i am 29 years young and i used to play every rfiday night. my fiance dumped nme becuase i spemnt my lefsaving on pixie holow

  47. PfenyxFyre says:

I literally thought today, I really feel like playing Pixie Hollow today. Went to look for the game, and found it was completely vanished! So lame! Mobile apps just are never the same or as fun as what online PC are. They just don’t offer as much. I am really disappointed. They should reconsider and bring Pixie Hollow back! :/

  48. Dawn says:

Pixie Hollow costed a great deal of money to make the first time around and to redo it would be even more expensive. All previous material was deleted long ago so everyone would have to start over completely new. So to restart it again who is going to pay for it ? I guess you just think Disney should open (just for you) its deep pockets and foot the bill again ? Disney (if it was going to bring it back ) would have to see thousands of “paying” people before they would consider it. It was a mistake the first time to allow free memberships as at the end there were more free members than paying members. Wishing upon a star is wonderful but who is going to pay for it. I know I would pay for their highest membership but would you or could you.
