Monsters, Inc. 2: Monsters University

Monsters, Inc. 2: Monsters University

In the wake of the overwhelming critical and financial success of Toy Story 3 (which scored two Oscars at the 2011 Academy Awards), the once sequel-adverse Pixar Studios is looking pretty sequel-snuggly. Pixar’s Cars 2 will hit theaters this summer on June 24th, and rumors have circled about other sequels in the works, including The Incredibles 2. Fans of The Incredibles will be disappointed that Pixar has yet to go public with the fate of the heroic Parr family, but a 2012 release has been secured for a sequel of an equally beloved, soon-to-be franchise: Monsters, Inc. 2, set to debut on November 2nd, exactly eleven years after the original hit theaters.

‘Mars Needs Moms’ Bombs

‘Mars Needs Moms’ Bombs

Twenty-four days into its release, Disney’s latest film, the sci-fi animated feature Mars Needs Moms, is barely hanging on to 10th place at the box office after another meager domestic haul of $2.3 million. The film’s domestic $6.9 million opening weekend was a major disappointment for Disney’s Buena Vista, and with a current international box office tally of only $34.35 million, it is unlikely Mars Needs Moms will recuperate much more of its estimated $175 million production and marketing budget.

‘Tangled’ Coming to Blu-ray and DVD

‘Tangled’ Coming to Blu-ray and DVD

When I saw Tangled in the theater last December, I thought it was the most charming, romantic, and entertaining (non-Pixar) Disney animated film since Beauty and the Beast (1991). Disney’s 50th animated feature is such a delight that I was simultaneously grinning broadly and blinking back tears for most of the 100 minute duration.

And now, four months after its box office debut, Tangled is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on March 29th! Tangled-lovers with multiple home systems can even buy a 4-disc combo pack with the film on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and as a digital copy (a steal at only $29.99 on Amazon). Members of the Disney Movie Rewards club are also eligible for a free* Tangled bracelet with their purchase of the film between March 29th and June 30th, while supplies last.

Disney Dining Experiences

Have you heard the big news coming out of the Magic Kingdom? In January, new details emerged about the planned Fantasyland expansion that will more than double the size of the area with new attractions opening in 2012 and 2013. For more details on the Fantasyland expansion, click here. One of the new attractions will be The Beast’s Castle featuring the Be Our Guest Restaurant, a 552 seat dining establishment that will offer a casual counter-service lunch by day and an elegant sit-down table service dinner by night.

When it opens, the Be Our Guest Restaurant will join the ranks of more than 150 restaurants, cafes, and food courts at the Walt Disney World Resort. Many of the restaurants are ranked among the best in Orlando, from the elegant Victoria & Albert’s to the African-themed Jiko – the Cooking Place. During our Honeymoon visit to the Walt Disney World Resort last fall, my husband Matthew and I ate at several of Disney’s most popular sit-down restaurants and thoroughly enjoyed our dining experiences.

Radio Disney Android App

Radio Disney Android App

At 30,000 apps, the Android mobile app market is minute in comparison to rival Apple’s 350,000+ applications, but in February, a free Radio Disney app – Disney’s first non carrier-exclusive app – finally joined the Android ranks.

Like its Apple counterpart, the app offers 24-hour live channel streams and allows users to request songs, send shout-outs, see recently played songs, add songs to a Favorites list, and learn about local Radio Disney events. And most significantly, the app has multitasking capabilities, meaning that users can listen to Radio Disney while using their phones for other things like texting, browsing the internet, and sending emails.
