Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Disney’s Pixie Hollow is No More

Blogging Disney has featured the world of Pixie Hollow on three previous occasions.

Tinker Bell

In August 2011, I blogged about the Disney Fairies Magazine and the Disney Fairies Fly mobile app: Tinker Bell and Disney Fairies Magazine.

In September 2011, I promoted the TV premiere and home video release of the Pixie Hollow Games movie with links to online games and contests. Pixie Hollow Games, Contests, and More!

And in July 2013, I gave a detailed review of one of my favorite Disney apps: Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique.

Are you surprised there’s so much happening in the tiny, magical world of Peter Pan’s temperamental fairy sidekick? Don’t be!

Introducing the Garden Fairy Chloe, screenshot from disney.go.com/fairies/

Fans of the Disney Fairies franchise have always known the world of Tinker Bell and her friends is more than just movies, magazines and mobile apps: it’s a vast multiplayer online universe where you can create your own fairy avatar, play games, design fashions and interact with thousands of other Tinker Bell fans.

Err, well…it used to be, anyway.

As it happens, Disney shut down the Pixie Hollow online world in September 2013, just two months after I raved about the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app (which I came THISCLOSE to spending real $$$ playing). But on September 19th, Pixie Hollow vanished, and along with it, the Disney Fairies Fashion Boutique app.

What about Disney Fairies Fly and the Disney Fairies Magazine? Are they still around? Nope. All gone. Poof. It’s as if they never existed.

Of course, Disney can delete Pixie Hollow from the internet and remove the games from the App Store, but my blog posts are still online. I didn’t even know Disney purged the Disney Fairies universe until I received several comments from readers who couldn’t find the Fashion Boutique in the App Store. The comments were from angry Fairies fans who loved the fashion boutique app but couldn’t download it on new devices and were unable to recover the game after accidentally deleting the original download.

Pixie Hollow Closed

As a Fashion Boutique fan, the frustrations of other gamers inspired me to investigate the vanishing app. The internet isn’t always the easiest place to find things that no longer exist, but after a fair amount of Googling, I found an FAQ explaining Disney’s purge of Pixie Hollow and its related apps.

Pixie Hollow FAQ

Unfortunately, the FAQ page is a JPG image, making it inaccessible to screen readers and devices without image support, and the text can’t be read and indexed by search engines. To help the distraught Fairies fans who come to Blogging Disney looking for answers, I’ve copied Disney’s official FAQ below.

Just so you know…I would give up Facebooking to play Pixie Hollow again. Think about it Disney

  2. TinkerBell5Ever says:

What the butts?!?!?!?! How dare they shut down Pixie Hollow? When I was younger my sisters and I would bond over this game. It was one of the only joyful things in my childhood. Just this year we looked up the website and were SHocKed to see it taken down. This is an outrage.

  3. Holly says:

This was my first ever game a have been a huge part of my childhood. I seriously miss my friends and I think that this is the most wonderful and magical game i’ve ever played. It has everything a player can ask for and there are lots of activities. I don’t regret spending money and i’m proud that i’ve learned and experienced stuff about Pixiehollow. Up until now, i’m still hoping for a come back πŸ™ πŸ™ even though it’s really impossible. I will always cherish every bit of my memory in pixiehollow
    ~ Have a flitterrific day

  4. amy says:

I feel so sad :,( It’s sad that we lost our favorite childhood memories and it’s more sad to see everybody sad which makes the whole world sad. I wish i could meet the Disney boss and make him get the game back or create another one JUST LIKE PH.

  5. Grace says:

Omg why??? Its not coming back? I’m 18 now but I was bored and thought let’s take a trip to the past only to find that my favorite childhood game is GONE? this is so sad.

  6. Hanna4lfe says:

Why did they have to take it down? Was it not worth the money? I’m pretty sure it was worth the money. If they were going to shut a game down, they should’ve shut down a less-popular game. This makes no sense. I remember when I was eight. I would play this all the time with my cousins! But, this year I was bored and tried looking for it. I was disappointed to find out that they had shut it down. I looked for this game for hours. Disney has NOT done anything as good as this game since it shut down, and I believe it should be put back up! With all the same qualities and stuff. I remember collecting sunflower seeds and stuff like that. This is a total disappointment. My child-hood ran on this game. I’m sad that my younger sibling wont get to experience the fun moments of this game. I loved it! But now, those memories are forever gone, and wont come back. I will not ever get to experience that much fun again. I love Disney’s work, but why?! I guess I’ll stop now. Keep up the good work Disney! Hope you make a game as fun as Pixie Hollow was! <3

  7. PixieHollow4Ever says:

Well I just remembered this game. And it was a huge part of my childhood. Why do they have to take it down??? I really loved this game and I cannot believe it. And earlier tonight, I was trying to figure out where the old BarbieGirls.com website went. It makes me extremely sad that my childhood memories cannot be brought back. I mean Disney Channel has these dumb TV shows on it now and I can’t enjoy watching it. Now they have to take away this amazingly fun game that everyone loved. WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK DISNEY?????????????????????????????????????????????????????? This game will forever be remembered.

  8. Mallory says:

I love Disney the way it is but I hate it when they show re-runs!!

  9. Mallory says:

I love Disney the way it is. But I don’t like that they always show re-runs

  10. Nessie says:

I think Disney isn’t all it used to be. I used to love all the stuff they put out, especially this game! Now I don’t even bother going to their website to be honest. I’m 17 now and would still be playing if they actually could come up with something as good as what they used to have.

  11. Mask says:

I’m 18 now and let me tell you gurllllllllllllllll this was my first game that i played. I would still play it if it still up. I just love clothes design on this game. There is no game out there that give so much option for pretty clothes and update of it. I always supported them, buying 1 year membership. Never in my life i thought they would close but i guess i was so wrong ;-;. If they ever come back im supporting again! no question ask :))

  12. Dawn says:

Fairy abc is a waste of good time and money

  13. Peanut says:

It’s funny how I can cry about a game. The thing is, this particular game is probably not coming back no matter how much we scream at Disney. I remember flying around, buying hair and clothes, pets, collecting floating blueberries and sunflower seeds, and making friends. My sister and I would call up a friend who also played the game and would tell her to play while we were and go to Havendish Square. We’d say “Lets go have a tea party here!” or “Come to my house!”. I remember begging my parents for a membership and them saying it wasn’t worth it haha. But I made so many memories- great memories. I remember wanting to finish my 1st grade homework early JUST to play the darn game. We painted our room Tinkerbell with the Tinkerbell stickers and everything. I’m not entirely sure why they shut it down however. They are “shifting their development focus towards other online and mobile play experiences” but I’m not hearing really BIG news about games produced by Disney at the moment. Over the past years, I don’t think Disney had made a game as big and as popular as this Pixie Hollow game. This game was huge. With kids persuading their parents for a membership, they must have gotten tons of money. Plus other merch and things Disney is getting- they should have had enough money to keep it going. But it probably wasn’t just money I guess. Programmers and administrators probably decreased or something- I’m not sure. Anyway, my say doesn’t matter to Disney and I am sure they are working on some big projects that will make future generations laugh and smile as us older ones. I am a little disappointed that my younger sister won’t be given the chance to play this incredible game, but she will play other games I’m sure! Disney, for whatever you are doing, keep us smiling and flying high with that pixie dust of yours!

  14. eener9lilly says:

i remembered this game i loved this game now they replaced it with stupid do this do that games OK I MAY BE OVER THE NORMAL AGE TO PLAY IT BUT I WANTED TO SEE IT πŸ™ i loved this game and all types like it i always had hated all those other do this that games they had πŸ™

  15. cafflne says:

THIS WAS A HIGH QUALITY GAME AND IT GOT A LOT OF ATTENTION AND LITERALLY LIKE IM SO SAD I WAS TRYING TO BE NOSTALGIC TODAY AND PLAY SOME CHILDHOOD GAMES BUT DISNEY DOESNT HAVE THIS PIXIE HOLLOW GAME IM GONNA COMPLAIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE PLS BRING THIS BACK PLS RN

  16. Dawn says:

Well Pixie Hollow from Disney is never coming back.
All that remains is FairyABC and there is nothing else around so its ABC or nothing I chose ABC ande it is a blast from the past (2013 past). You can cry all you want about Disney’s PH but its gone once and for all and Disney is not bring it back so move on.

  17. Kara says:

I remember when my sister told me about pixie hollow. I went on my moms laptop and made an account. It was so fun getting to choose your hair and everything. I really really miss this website. First pixie hollow now club penguin. Why is disney taking away our childhoods. I wish they would bring this back

  18. Luna Rainsparkle says:

Im 12 and i miss this so much, i remember on the last day we all said goodbye to each other and “The end is near!” Oh i miss this so much, even my mom misses this, why did Disney do this? I payed for membership, ughhh im so depressed. Bring it back! First Pixie Hollow, Now Club Penguin.

  19. jane says:

i used to play it i wasn’t good enough but it was my fav game😭😭😭

  20. amy says:

Eliza.. I know how you feel! We all feel the same >.<

  21. maliha says:

Pixie Hollow’s Virtual World was one of my most memorable games that I’ve played as a child. I find it disappointing that Disney decided to remove this game and with not even a valuable reason, by the way, doesn’t even make sense. why???

  22. Eliza says:

Their reason for shutting the game down doesn’t make sense at all.”Disney Interactive is committed to offering high-quality, entertaining play experiences in both online virtual worlds and mobile apps. At this time, we are shifting our development focus towards other online and mobile play experiences”,<–
Pixie Hollow is a virtual world game, its high quality also don't I just don't understand. Yes Pixie Hollow was getting a lot of attention. But like why?? Pixie Hollow is a part of Disney, what was the point of making it if you're going to delete it I'm really trying to understand their excuse for deleting that game. Was it because it was getting a lot of attention? Because it was getting a lot of attention more than the other Disney games. No offense but they didn't really have that many entertaining games on Disney. I love Disney HONESTLY. I watched Disney ever since I was a child I played all their games online before. I remember when they created the first Tinkerbell movie and then the next one. I was in love with Tinkerbell after that. I changed my room color to purple with Tinkerbell stickers on the wall, I had Tinkerbell comforters. Everything, Everything, Everything TINKERBELL. Now they created the online game of it. I was so excited and nervous, I know it sounds really dumb and cheesy. But it really wasn't the moment when I was creating my own fairy felt really special like Magical. You people just don't know how bad we loved that game. And to just take something like that away from these children that's really dimwitted. "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." – Walt Disney said that. I'm sure you already know since he was the creator of it. You don't take something somebody created and turn it and change it into a whole different thing. I think Disney has changed completely. I mean where's that fun, where's that spark that Disney always used to have because I don't see nor do I feel it anymore. I doesn't make sense to eradicate a game just because you feel like you need to focus on the bigger picture. I honestly don't know Walt Disney at all. But he inspired me to believe more and dream more to grow my imagination into whole big other things. Don't take that away just because of your perspective. I am probably overdramatizing all this, but I just want you to remember how this all started . Don't lose that spark!

  23. Belle says:

I’ve tried playing fairy abc and it just isn’t the same. You can’t go on quests and up your talent skill level, you can’t play the games from the old version, you can’t earn badges, and I am not able to interact with other fairies. It is so sad that they took this game down, it was a huge part of my childhood and I really wish I could play the game again to relive all of those wonderful memories. πŸ™

  24. Jannet says:

This is so sad. i used to love playing in pixie hollow. i really wish they would open this beautiful world again <3

  25. Jazzberry says:

dawn showed you a link to fairy ABC. We can sit here and cry about it or we can play in the ABC version. It’s not the same but atleast it’s close enough. Come join us and create a fairy at fairy Abc

  26. Rachel says:

I reaally missed this game :'( I hope pixie hallow will re-open someday :’3

  27. amy says:

Yes I agree with you all πŸ™

  28. Hazel says:

I played OH for a long time. It was so enchanting and fun. . my granddaughter also loved it . I was hoping by now you could bring it back so my other grandchildren can play. We speak of it quite often. Hey bring PH back. It’s the least you could do for the children so they can play and enjoy making their own fairy

  29. why says:

whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy I’ve been searching for it so my cousin could play but now whe cant …….. why do you hate us ,

  30. Autumn says:

I Am DEVASTED! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH,WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. My Mom Is Upset Too. I Think Pixie Hollow will come back.

  31. Margaret says:

I think that they were being truthful in that letter, but were being incredibly vague about *exactly* what they were saying actually meant. I think the reason behind the shutdown was mainly just that they may not have been getting as much money as they wanted from the game or something to that effect, so they pulled the plug and focused their efforts on improving and promoting the online worlds they were collecting sufficient funds from.

tldr: not enough $$ from phol, so no more game, here have more penguin *derp*

  32. Jazzberry says:

Dawn, agreed. I’m still curious though. What was soo bad that they had to shut it down… Club penguin is full of flirting, bad words, and many other stuff but it’s still here. So my question is why PH. What was soo bad for them to shut it down. Peace. (Amy you are from Algeria, I would have never guessed. It’s nice to meet people from diffrent places which is why I liked pixie hollow because of the diversity and friendship it had.

  33. Dawn says:

If there is a “real” reason why PH was closed they will never tell you or anyone.

  34. Chrissy says:

Katie i totally agree with you. I love this game so much and if Disney really appreciates its fans why would it do this to us. Pixie hollow was my number one childhood favourite for a long time. And even though disney made so much money form PIxie hollow, they still closed it. So im not buying cr**py explanation they gave. I wanna know the real reason why they shut it down.

  35. amy says:

But is it for Computer use? I think yes..

  36. jazzberry says:

I am loving fairy abc, it isn’t the same but its still lovely.

  37. Jazzberry says:

Look at this video. It will bring you memories and tears. I miss this song soo much! And I can still remember and play along with the tunes. http://youtu.be/SAeSApA2CU0

  38. Dawn says:

Its like Disney’s Pixie Hollow just not done by Disney but by a former Fairy called Wind Muddle.

  39. amy says:

Yeah, I tried to log in Fairy ABC but idk how it works. Is it only a computer game?

  40. amy says:

Yup Jazzbery! Also, I’m Algerian. So yeah, Disney had a lot of fans… And yes! I will watch the video Down! πŸ˜€

  41. Jazzberry says:

Thanks dawn I’ll check it out!

  42. Jazzberry says:

Yes Amy. I’m actually mixed. My father is saudi and my mom is Palestinian. But yeah I’m living in saudia. Bealieve it or not pixie hollow has fans from all over the world. My sister and I are one of them.

  43. Dawn says:

You guys will enjoy https://youtu.be/7mm1VLlwxcI this vid

  44. amy says:

    YOU ARE FROM SAUDIA?!
but yes, its true what he says, we all miss’s that game DX. Why is Disney being like that? That’s so unfair! Ndhvfvbgsgjlljdf idk what to do!

  45. Jazzberry says:

Katie, not only United states kids. I’m from saudia arabia and I miss this too. And I’m 19 now and a guy. So yeah. Not only the states but everywhere and anyone.

  46. katie fogarty says:
